The Truth…Can we handle it?

Would you eat food off of the ground? Probably not, right?

Would you sleep on a restroom floor?

Would you allow a boss to physically hit you?

If you are like most people, your answer was a resounding NO to all three questions. We all have personal standards that decide what we accept and what we do not. These standards are defined by are identity, or what others refer to as “self-image”.

Our self-image, is the image we see when we look inside ourselves or think about who we are. Have you ever went a long time not seeing yourself and then you pass by a mirror, and your physical appearance reminds you that you are the person inside that body? I know what you are thinking, “he’s crazy!”. Most of the time, we our accessing if we are doing the right things or saying the right things so much so that we are never present.

Well this image and these thoughts control EVERYTHING in our lives: the income we make, the body we have, the way we interact with others, etc. How we see ourselves is how others see us.

Have you ever met a disheveled person that thinks they look great, or a good looking person that is insecure? How they see themselves is the most important thing.

This doesn’t only apply to appearance, it translates to every single area of our lives. For example, let’s go back to the 1st question: You probably wouldn’t eat off the floor, because you have a higher standard. Now that might mean McDonalds or that might mean Whole Foods. You wouldn’t sleep on a restroom floor because you have a higher standard: Now that might mean an apartment or that might mean a home on the beach. You wouldn’t allow a boss to beat you: now that might mean you allow disrespect and a lack of appreciation, or that might cause you to decide to become a CEO of your own company.

Our world is the external reflection of our own introspection. If we see ourselves worthy of more or better, then we take the actions to bring about change. If we do not, then we accept life as it is.

I have met so many great people that didn’t see all their gifts because of reasons like: past failures, poor associations, or beliefs projected onto us by others. Whatever the reason is, these people believe they aren’t successful, or intelligent, or have what it takes to win and develop a low self-esteem. That self-esteem becomes our map.

In order to change your life, you need to think your way out of it. An idea can be presented through a mentor or a book, but it’s presented to the world. It’s up to you to own it and act upon it. Those that learn to process, and question why they feel a certain way, think a certain way, or do what they do are on the path to working through their limiting beliefs.

Your promise to yourself is the greatest act that will raise your self-image. Make a decision to change one area and do it. (I.e. I will read for 30 minutes for 5 days, I will work out 3 times this week for 30 minutes). These small promises grow into big ones, and before you know it, you are declaring and doing. As a result, you’re happier because you’re growing, progressing towards the life of your dreams, and becoming someone you like. Your decisions define your destiny; let’s do it together!
